Zion
Location:
- Biblical: tsiyyon (צִיּוֹן) — the stronghold/fortress conquered by David, the City of David, the mountain/hill of the LORD's house, Jerusalem, Mount Zion where the LORD reigns.
- Modern Location:
Significance:
- First mention: 2 Samuel 5:7 — the fortress of Zion, the same is the city of David.
- Last mention: Hebrews 12:22 — Mount Zion, the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem.
- Symbolic: God's chosen dwelling place, the holy city, the mountain of the LORD's house exalted above the hills, source of law and word of the LORD, place of eternal reign, deliverance and holiness.
- Major Events:
- David captures the stronghold of Zion (2 Samuel 5:7);
- the LORD reigns over the remnant in Mount Zion forever (Micah 4:7);
- out of Zion the law shall go forth (Micah 4:2);
